NYC Code Questions

Hi all, thank you for your time. I have two questions about NYC code.

1) I’m hearing conflicting requirements. Do I need pigtails on my controls even if a have a water seal as shown?
2) Pipe insulation; the insulation for fittings seem to be a PVC cover over fiberglass, does the City of NY care about the PVC cover in the boiler room?

Thanks again

Not familiar with NYC code but every jurisdiction I have seen will accept a water seal that does not have to be pigtails. It is required in some locations to use brass fittings instead of black fittings especially in smaller sizes. Brass is a good idea. Pipe insulation is usually fiberglass or the newer "earth wool" mineral insulation. Indoors usually fiberglass with "Zeston" PVC fitting covers are used. Outdoors the pipe covering is jacketed with pvc and the pvc fitting covers are used.

In MA its code on steam boilers over 250K BTU'S that you need a water seal with clean, not pig tails.

Can only use Tee's or cross fittings.
Needs to constructed in 3/4 black or 1/2" brass.

    I like brass
