Retired the last one of these recently. Thought I had gotten the last of them some time ago. It was pretty slow closing in the end. Someone definitely got their money's worth out of this one Could not help but check out the original patent application too.

that was one long lasting air vent!

Is that a vacuum vent? One of my almost original Hoffman #2 I pulled all had the long dip tube. Not quite original, but probably almost 100 years old.

It a 90 year young single pipe steam system, parallel flow. No vacuum I know of except when the steam collapses, but after reading about Igor Zhadanovsky's vacuum boost setup I'd consider a setup like that and selling off all my spare vents
