How do I turn off radiators

Bedroom is insanely hot at night and generally have to turn the ceiling fan on halfway through the night. Just moved into this place and not really sure how to turn the radiators off. Any help would be appreciated

    That valve on the top will turn it off. Or down. Whatever you want. However, it may be a bit reluctant to turn. If you can shift it, even a little bit, do that -- back and forth -- usually they will cooperate given time and patience.

    If not, take another picture of the valve from the side, and we may be able to help you figure out how to do a little surgery on it to free it up.

    Oh -- and clockwise should be off...

    Do you own the house/building?
    You are lucky to have a 2 pipe system.
    What is the brand name on the top of the valve?
