Running plates under sub-floor. Have some joist spacing that is tight, in one area. Need to run plates overlapping on the sides. Can one overlap plates side by side, or will they make noise when heating via and expansion and contraction. Plates are 4 inches wide and have space of 7 1/2 wide then space with beams to the side that I can't run plates. For the best distribution I wan't to run 2 rows and not just one in the 7 1/2 wide joist space. If its one row the gap between the next place to put plates is to far. Was thinking about putting some tape between the plates so they won't make noise if they rub and just stack them offset a little. Is the best option is to rip the plates down so it wont overlap and leave gap small gap at the sides. Any thoughts? Thanks

You don't want them to touch each other or you'll have expansion noise for sure.Bob Boan
