    I'll bet the energy conservation push was hot during the war to conserve coal for industry and the fleet.

    I remember the asbestos covered boiler in my childhood house, I also remember by brothers struggling to get the ash barrel up the cellar stairs.

    I don't know what we were paying for coal but I remember us paying $36 a month for a 6 room apartment in a 4 family house.

    It seems unlikely that any insulation has the power to save the Peabody coal company now, in the face of natural gas.
    How funny to see reference to the tea cozy, which we use, but i never see mentioned here.

    It's like paper mache but use use asbestos, the rough cast iron makes it stick pretty well even after 80 years.

    Actually those are hot water radiators. I was always wondering how did radiator air vents look like back in the 20s...
