    New to this forum today, after reading Boiler Ratings Explained posted by you back in 2014. I have just read this article and I am still laughing. You are a hoot, I could read this stuff all day long.

    Two things were drilled into me when I first started in this business.
    1- (Now obsolete) "The ONLY nozzle for a Shell head in an 80* hollow."
    2- This was the advice of my first boss, who without his patience and generosity, I'd be bagging groceries at the Quickie Mart. He said "NEVER fix before you get there."
    Even now, you get the call from dispatch, sometimes with the clients explanation of the symptoms. As your driving, you can't help but troubleshoot in your mind.
    With residential heat or A/C calls, on repeat calls, a client will want to tell me, or show the invoices from previous techs. I politely decline so I can start from jump street and get my own view.

    I've been troubleshooting for well over 50 years and the one thing I learned to do when a problem had me stumped was to busy myself with something else for a while and came back at it from a fresh perspective.

    An open mind sees more than a closed one (because of preconceived notions) does.
