trying to find a replacement for tekmar

boiler control 363.

Like most of you, every now and then I inherit an "old" 15 year or so heating system. You know, the one that still has that monstrous on/off boiler taking up valuable floor space. The boiler may be in good or bad condition, but the old beastie still has a lot of life left in it if it were serviced right.

I am a proud "papa" of a 17 year old Slant/Fin Galaxy that has been worked on by every Tom, **** and Harry it seems, by the patina of stickers stopping the hot water storage tank from levitating!

There are more transformers on this system then God created stars in the night sky. So I would love to clean this mess up and allow the Slant/ Fin to once again proudly sit amongst the dust and serve its owners for another 20 to 30 years.

In the olden days, when the Yankees were winning pennants, I used to rely upon tekmar 363's for these kind of situations. But alas, I find that not only has Tekmar been bought by Watts (when did that happen?), but my mainstay is no longer available, so with deep confusion coldly clouding my eyes, I again turn to the sages of the Wall and wail "Where can I turn to, to bring comfort to this lowly Galaxy boiler, and warmth to my new found customers?"

Tekmar's direct replacement for the 363 is the 374, here:

I would assume that you simply don't activate the second stage on the 374 if there is only one stage.

If ODR is all you need, your best bet might be a Hydrolevel HydroStat which would replace the aquastat relay on the Galaxy. This is a 2012-compliant energy-saving control that has ODR built in, and also adds low-water cutoff capability if you replace the well it mounts on.

Tekmar makes zone managers too that will work fine with their boiler controls. They even make thermostats and wifi thermostats for even more control. The 260 control has ODR, single stage, DHW

The Honeywell aquatrol line is pretty decent, has all that is needed. and a better price.

We ship new residential Galaxy hot water boilers with the Hydrolevel Hydrostate 3200 Plus. This has supply water thermal targeting built-in with optional outdoor temperature reset that just requires an optional outdoor sensor.
In addition, Tekmar is a quality product and can be used with Slant/Fin boilers.
There are many options to update your Galaxy boiler. If the Honeywell aquastat relay is model L8148E1273, it is the OEM control from the factory. If that is the case, the Tekmar would be preferred, if the control was replaced with a Honeywell Tradeline control, it would not make any difference. The boiler is CSA Design Approved with the OEM control.

Galaxy boilers are great boilers and will last a very long time when properly maintained.
