Rinnai heater overfilled humidifier tray

I have a Rinnai 1004f heater and I carelessly overfilled the humidifier tray...I noticed it because it started smelling like a new heater when you first turn it on, a slight burning smell. So I checked and realized that indeed I had overfilled the tank to the top. I'm not sure how much spilled over, I don't think very much. I turned it off right away and I syphoned all the water out of the tray. I haven't turned it back on yet. Do you think it caused permanent damage and should I turn it back on? Thank you!

I can't see where it would have caused any permanent harm to anything...Br. Jamie, osb
