The best place to install a cast-iron radiator
Ideally, a cast-iron radiator should be under the window (that’s where the greatest heat loss is), and it should be as wide as the window.

Hi,
I bought a 1890 house two years ago. Most of the house is heated with cast iron radiators, but a lot of them have been covered with wood boxes with a screen on top. I feel that this is not very energy efficient and would like to get rid of them. Plus these radiators are beautiful.
How much more efficient would my radiators be if they were uncovered. The house is not insulated yet.0 -
Actually the covers don't make that much difference, provided they have the screen on the top and are open at the bottom, so the air can circulate. Somewhere on the site there are discussions about them.Br. Jamie, osb
