Hi!
It was suggested to me that sharing some of these photos I recently took of some ongoing work I am doing in my place may be of interest up here. In full disclosure, I really must again thank both Erin Holohan Haskell and Frank "Steamhead" for taking a few minutes to discuss a question I had on the castings before I painted them. Im not taking credit for the history lesson here, but random bit of history I learned.... "Balto" is an old abbreviation for Baltimore. When I was about to start highlighting the raised casting letters on these old Republic Radiators, I couldn't clearly make out the smaller lettering, which appeared to read an abbreviation for Baltimore Maryland. I didnt want to stripe the incorrect wording, so I reached out to Erin, who suggested I contact Frank who is very knowledgable with all things steam. Both were gracious enough to take some time to help me out, and I did indeed learn that "Balto" was correct, and the Oriole model name on the radiator is paying homage to the state bird...not the baseball team haha. So again, thank you to both Erin and Frank for the guidance!
There are four radiators in the one room I am currently in the process of finishing up here in the firehouse which had been painted silver. I didnt go crazy with stripping and sandblasting them, I just cleaned them up and painted them with Benjamin Moore Super Spec DTM paint which I had mixed to a drab army green. Are they perfect? No...but what is in life, nor do they need to be. They arent very fancy or ornate radiators either, but they needed some love. So here are some shots that you may enjoy (One of the shots is from another room)

Very Nice! I like the look.
Almost seems like the spacing between the radiator sections is not equal in the picture.
Probably just the backround or the angle the picture was taken0 -

Wow, those are beautiful! I like the contrast between the rads and the bare plaster and woodwork. Suitable for framing!!
Makes my battleship gray rads look a bit drab.0 -
Very pretty!
Tell us how you painted the gold raised lettering so neatly.8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Thank you all for the kind words! I am glad you enjoy the shots! The gold lettering I did first summoning my inner Liberace, followed by just using some gold metallic enamel I got at a hardware store and used a little detail brush to try to follow the raised casting as carefully and neatly as I could.Weil McLain EGH 95 400,000 BTU single pipe steam4

Such an aptly named thread. That last one is screen saver worthy. I love the unfinished walls, too.0
