This was found in the basement of a house built in 1693. This is a better picture. It shows Open, Closed & Check positions.

How about a picture of it on edge (90 rotation).
It is familiar somehow.....I'll go look in my garage.

This is a picture of the other side. What doesn't show in either picture are the words Open, Closed & Check.0

Where do you see that on that stove !?Fred said:Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

That's a very similar vent/damper in the middle of the top door. Here's another one: http://antiquestoves.net/dir/antique-stoves-for-heating/baseburner-cylinder-stoves/kernan-globe-112-antique-stove-detailChrisJ said:

The dampers on pretty much any pot belly stove look like that.Fred said:

I don't think the item the OP has is a damper.

@ChrisJ Here is one on a kitchen stove flue. http://antiquestoves.net/dir/buy-a-cook-stove/antique-stoves-wood-and-coal/othello-antique-cook-stove-detail
I can't say what it is but I do think it is a damper off of an old stove of some type???-1 -
The material looks too thin to be a damper for any fire flue, IMO.
But maybe a damper/air vent for the baking oven side of a wood burning cook stove or a roaster/broaster type pan.
Things built in the 20's & 30's even proclaimed "Made in the USA", even if there was no import completion for most items.2 -
It looks like a remote control for a damper, not a damper it self.JUGHNE said:The material looks too thin to be a damper for any fire flue, IMO.

That is why I asked for the 90 degree edge picture, to see if a chain would fit into the pulley (if it is one).
(ChrisJ, if it is a remote control, I can't see where to put the batteries.)

Sorry, I didn't intentionally ignore your request for a picture of the edge. I'm just not near the object any longer.
Thank you for your help.0
