Reducing on the horizontal!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. You can't reduce on the horizontal! Even the dead men get it wrong sometimes, as this was original. 1st picture shows steam main reduced from 2" to 1". Next pictures are of the repipe. Not a bad Monday morning job.

Fair enough @Abracadabra! This, however, was sadly not the case.

Got one right now that was done with a concentric 4x3 over 100 years ago. I'm having a hard time getting them to understand why it needs to be fixed.

The reducing coupling is behind the column in the pic:

I'm having trouble uploading the video of me draining this pipe, but when I do, you can show them it @Ironman. They will quickly understand

If you'll look closely at mine, you'll also see that there's a sag in the 4" part before the coupling, to the right. The floor joists above have settled. I can only guess how much condensate is there that has to boiled off before steam can pass. And they complain about response time. Not to mention the 180' of uninsulated mains.

Get them "We've Got Steam Heat", or is there no convincing them @Ironman?

I did. Their excuse is they can't afford it. I told them that they can't afford the fuel they're wasting.

Yup, once in a while you run into these. We just fixed one the other day.

Here's one we encountered a few years ago:
