Maybe an hour and a half to two hours west of the junction of I-77 and I-74. Take I-77 exit 100 west, that's state highway 89. It winds through the country for a ways. After you go through Lowgap and pass the Cumberland Knob recreation area, turn left on state highway 18, cross the Blue Ridge Parkway, go through Sparta and Whitehead, and Laurel Springs is the next village you get to, at the junction of highways 18 and 88.

Perhaps, but if someone is in the area, why not have a look? If nothing else, it should be a rather pretty drive.

  • Check it out on Google Earth. There doesn't seem to be anything quite like that there.

Not sure exactly where it was. Many rural areas did not use street addresses the way larger towns and metropolitan areas do. This is why no address appears on that postcard. Some places continued with Rural Route or General Delivery postal service until the advent of Emergency 911 service, which mandated the use of individual addresses. My aunt and uncle live in one such place, and I remember there was a lot of grumbling when the county started using street addresses.

Since this was called the Parkway Motor Court, it might have been south of Laurel Springs itself, near the Blue Ridge Parkway.

  • The Laurel Springs post office has a phone number:

    (336) 359-2417

Call them on Tuesday and I'll bet they or someone else in town knows about the Parkway Motor Court & Restaurant.

This looks like it. They've added a second floor to the rear building, and expanded the restaurant:

You know no one can add onto a steam system.
That would require working with threaded pipe..........

If you can't put it together with a glue stick or crimper it's not happening.

Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.
