An interesting side-note to the Carrier situation. Mexico says," that's OK, the United States is not the world, and they don't need us".

Sadly the USA is now a backwards country in most tech and high tech manufacturing. The problems are deep. We cant even make pure enough silicone for the chips we design, not only because we dont have the machines, or the skill to run the machines, let alone the ability to design the machhines, but our water is not pure enough.
Its astounding we find ourselves in this situation and in 150 trillion of debt and a quadrillion of credit default swaps hanging over us as the result of the fiat.
Whts needed is WPA type project reimagined from the far right that rebuilds the American industrial might on capitalist nationalist principles. But we are too broke to do that, and neither the marxist left nor corporatist "right" wants capitalism or American industrial might.
If trump were a Machiavelian genius with Musk like handle on tech and a Goldman understanding of the seedy underside of the devils bargain between marxist multiculturalist and globalist bankers and corporatist he would have a very slim chance of besting them.
Having nothing left our only advantage we have, maybe he or bannon see this maybe they dont we shall see. There is some indication they do get this. They have to be very careful both partys are against him and an impeachment would be easy. Trust me they have enough on every one of us to reach out and destroy whenever they want.
The solution is to entice the "capitalists" to use their own money [well actually the money they looted from us] Things like these little deals are not the real game thats agitprop to gain power to keep the pols in check. The game is to bribe the corps with their own money offer them tax free returns on investments made in targetted indutries within the US, and tax free repatriatin of offshore assets. This is money we are never going to get anyway it costs us nothing. But we will get the jobs and payroll taxes and the taxes on the local suppliers. And we will begin to to again become the swing producer in High tech manufacturing which in turn will give us pricing power commensurate with the expectation of Americans. Of course a little bit of stick will be needed as well, but not too much to scare the markets, the corporatists are used to the shakedown from the marxists the affirmative action and environmental nonsense so they will see the stick as a feather comparatively. as the power shifts from the marxists the corporatists will jump ship and become capitalists again. The bankers know if they are not careful they will end up in gulags for their crimes the left and cuckserves couldnt put them their without jeopardizing themselves a third way trump can. the banksters also realize if something doesnt change the ships going down anyway and sooner or later post-collapse they will be hunted down. We are on the verge of civil wat this better work. Im not convinced trump or Bannon have what it takes or really get it or can overcome the Cathedral. But war is really bad so we better hope they pull it off.

One problem, no real capitalist EVER uses his own money. He'll gladly use OPM (other peoples money) though, especially if it's from the little people that can't take action against him.

Bill and Warren Buffet are outliers in the group but then so was Andrew Carnegie. I will say I am eternally grateful to people like them, I grew up in one of the libraries that people like Carnegie helped fund.

Mr. C. was a member of The General Society, so I can call him brother since we signed the same book. He listed his occupation as "cotton spinner."

    How's that for humility?

Actually, Carnegie only put up 1/2 of money for libraries. Communities had to come up with the other 1/2: for books, operations, salaries, maintenance. Nonetheless, amazing feat.

On the other hand, he was fighting labor movement fiercely. Here's an interesting NPR story from a few years ago.

I worked for a very wealthy businessman for a number of years. Business had been slow for a couple years, and the plant manager decided he was going to take matters in hand. He marched into the man's office, and told him that he had requested and received a 10% price cut from all of our vendors. The man leaned forward in his chair, lowered his glasses on his nose, and said," why you ****, you mean I've been over-paying by 10%, all this time".

It's a competitive market-place. If their market position would not be adversely affected, they must have been under-charging? After all, we all saw huge price reductions from the companies that have moved off-shore. There's two sides to every coin.

I didn't, but thanks for sharing that. He was a very smart man. I've made the argument, in the past, that sometimes being the cheapest isn't the best business approach. People will pay extra, for what they perceive to be the best. Have you looked at a pair of Levi's lately? That's a sad state of affairs.

They left out the fact that they were attempting to save money by using "recycled" water. Flush twice!

    Yes I know.
This is also the first time I've heard of using silicone in ICs.

I assume he meant silicon, but even then Intel has absolutely no problem making something like 75% of their microprocessors in the USA.

Just a bit confused, that's all.

Tongue-in-cheek.......The sad part about it, is, that was probably reported as a fact. If nothing else, what this whole mess of an election should have shown us, is that the mass-media is screwed up.

As much as I dislike Trump and all that he stands for. We simply can't place all of the blame on him. About half of American voted for him and put him in this position. Reasons unknown, even though I can make some assumptions. Having said that, I guess we need to be civil to each other. Statistically, the vote suggests half of us probably bought his line of crap and believe in him. Let's hope better minds will prevail and we can recover.

A lot of the dislike of Trump is based on what he said about Muslims coming to this country. This woman offers a different perspective of things. Not backing Trump, just providing information about culture, and what we are dealing with.
