Old Stuff.... Bigelow HRT

Old Bigelow HRT Boiler now abandoned for years. Oil burner is a TODD rotary cup burner #4 oil. This boiler has a riveted shell which probably dates it to around 1925 or earlier as most of them were welded after that. The Bigelow Company was in New Haven Ct for years and is now defunct and made really good boilers. Todd Shipyards made the burner, they were in NYC and the Stamford, Ct area and made a lot of marine equipment. The boiler shell sits on a brick boiler setting and is not hung on steel which was later done which also suggests it is pretty old. this job is downtown Springfield, MA. You can also see the name of the old supply house that was also located in Springfield the "Wycoff & Lloyd Company which has been out of business for about50 years.

I can't imagine 1905, 1915, still horse and wagon. How did they rig those things & they had to support it until the bricks were installed. That boiler shell is probably 6' dia x 15'

Truly another era -- shipyards building their own burners.

Is this a firetube boiler? Most of those large boilers are fabricated in place, at least some of the ones I've seen.

@Dave0176 , No this is a Bigelow boiler made in New Haven. But as you mentioned they do fabricate boilers in place. I have never seen one of those but have herd that they do it in NYC all the time
