Weil Mclain Leaking from bottom

Have Weil Mclain boiler. Generates steam. Was oil fired then converted to gas. 1980s vintage. Has been great. Does not replenish water automatically. I need to go down and fill it . Last couple of years I've been filling it more frequently, like every 3 or 4 days. I do lose steam at radiator vents . ..hiss. I've been filling it so the aquastat is 3/4 full so I don't need to fill it as often. Recently noticed evidence of a leak. And aquastat was empty. When filling it I saw water leaking from bottom of boiler. Is the boiler shot or could it be a seal or something that could be fixed. Under service contract with Premier Heat(national program). Are those guys going to go the distance to diagnose or likely to dismiss it as toast.- Thanks for your help.

The service company will condemn it out of hand and tell you it has to be replaced, it is not in their best interests to lay a wrench on it.

Remove enough of the outer jacket so you can see where it's leaking. If it's leaking at a tapping it might be repairable but there is a risk the repair will be fatal. A 30 year old boiler is not a candidate for section replacement, the cost is just to high and you may have to replace other sections soon after. If you intend on doing the work yourself have at it and good luck.

At 30 years old anything more than a simple fix and you'll be putting good money onto bad.

I agree with @Dave0176 . It likely is time for a replacement but you can take the jacket off and see if the leak is obvious. Also, I think you mean you are filling the boiler until the "Sight Glass" is 3/4's full. An aquastat is a control devise and does not hold water.

Could be traced to an old tankless coil or blank plate gasket leak
