Any suggestion for economical water filter for whole house or just for boiler or water heater especially tankless?

What are you trying to filter out?

Mostly anything that will ruin/shorten the life of a tankless or heating unit or corrode pipes and fixtures

That's not a filter. That's a water treatment system. Filters only attack particulate material, technically. The only way to find out if you need a water treatment system is to have the water tested and then determine what -- if anything -- you need to remove. Hardness? Iron? pH problems? Manganese? All take different treatment.
