steam trap wrong or am i missing something??

i came to this job they have about 4 buildings on the block and most of the steam traps look like this?
i feel that their installed wrong am i missing something??
is there a steam trap that goes in like this?
looks like they used the wrong ports.

    This is correct for that type of trap. Illinois, Marsh and Sterling, among others, made this "outboard" style of trap. It was claimed that mounting the bellows and seat vertically helped keep them clean.

    And yes, parts are available for these.

    As mention by Steamhead they are outboard traps. You can tell by the tailpiece Union threading into what is usually the outlet.

    In my testing of outboard traps I find they work fine in that orientation but are slower to react both opening and closing than a angle pattern.

    Based on the original cover etc I'd say you got your money out of those!

    the tunstall capsule part number is tfil-1503 and you will need a new cover
