Isn't there some down side (venturi effect) to bushing the bull of a header tee?
And please post the numbers from a combustion test before the draft hood so we know what's going on with the boiler. Sustained low fire makes me nervous when untested.

Hi JohnNY- i can't vouch for the other guys, but i've never experienced any adverse effects from bushing a header tee's take off.

    How would you know?
I mean it's been said many times in this forum and in seminars...there's that slide Dan shows of a steam boiler illustration and he states there are several things wrong with the piping. One is the header tee being reduced at the bull.
Personally, I'd like to know there is no appreciable benefit to using a full-size tee and then a nipple and reducing coupling but that's not what I've been led to believe.
I don't think there is a metering device to test for carry-over moisture in the header but if there is, I want one.

I feel it depends on how many mains are pulling from the header.

If only one, it could be a big problem but if you have 2, 3 or 4 mains pulling from the header and their inside area is equal to, or larger than the header when bushed down I don't see why bushing it down would matter as long as the steam velocity is low enough.

For example, two 2" mains pulling from a 3" header shouldn't have an issue where one 2" main pulling from a 3" header may.

I don't really know, just trying to picture it in my head.

Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.
