They sure put some detail into their work.@Steamhead when were these rads made.

That one probably dates back to around the turn of the 20th century. IIRC the ornate rads went out of production around 1920.All Steamed Up, Inc.

I assume the return fitting has some kind of dip tube that reaches to the far end of the radiator to prevent short circuiting.0

@Abracadabra I've never seen a diptube in the rads that use those tappings.I've had them apart and you can reach across to both openings, without anything to redirect the flow inside. The ones in my home use all those connections and they heat well. I'm probably losing a few points of efficiency because there must be some crossover but it isn't a lot. I'll have to measure it this winter when a cycle starts to see how much goes straight to the returnAbracadabra said:I assume the return fitting has some kind of dip tube that reaches to the far end of the radiator to prevent short circuiting.
You can have it good, fast or cheap. Pick two0 -
If you can get some infrared images from a FLIR or similar infrared camera as the rad is heating up, we'd love to see them. All Steamed Up, Inc.

I would love some old rads in my house they just look great. They just don't match the look and style of the house.0

I just happen to have a phone with the FLIR camera built into it. @Steamhead It has options for still photos, video and time lapse video. Any preference? Would a video be better than stills?Steamhead said:If you can get some infrared images from a FLIR or similar infrared camera as the rad is heating up, we'd love to see them.

It would have been nice to be rated for use in a hazardous atmosphere, then I could use it everywhere at work but it's already a niche product that isn't cheap. I assume certification wasn't worth it.
Watch carrier compatibility before you buy it, I seem to remember it being incompatible with a couple of the larger carriers in the U.S., Verizon was one of them, I think.
I find myself using the FLIR a lot because it's always with me. I'm sure you'll find even more uses for it than I have.
@Mad Dog I wish I had have known you had rads like that available back then. I drove a long way to get plain ones for my basement, I definitely would have come and picked them up down there.(Probably would have been an interesting exchange with the border people)You can have it good, fast or cheap. I tried ordering one of those phones. Looks like it's pre-order only. @Canucker is there a retail outlet that has them available now? I told the wife I really really need one.0
-
@Abracadabra I registered for one back in March, so I probably am one of the first to get delivered. I believe that you can still preorder from catphones.com but you'll probably have to wait 4-6 weeks for delivery
Try Expansys usa. That's where mine shipped from and the website says that they have them in stockYou can have it good, fast or cheap. Pick two0
