If you pipe them right, you can just siphon it. I think the manual shows it clearly. You should also use care in filling it. You must fill the DHW center before the heating side .

Don't forget to depressurize the outer tank before you drain the inner tank.

I've drilled a hole in the inner hx thru the lower boiler tap out of desperation when my pony pump died on site. Fun.

    Hmm.
If you pipe it like page 8 in the manual http://s3.supplyhouse.com/manuals/1297270212205/47060_PROD_FILE.pdf

Draining it is pretty easy. You hook a hose to the drain and open the drain with the supply still turned on. Once the water is flowing, you isolate the tank from the supply and house and crack the T&P. 20 minutes later, the tank is empty. It just siphons out.

I guess if some piped it incorrectly, or if you did not have a floor drain, you would need a pump or a hole or something.....

True enough Hatt. This is a problem with the design. If you can run the hose outside or to a lower floor, you can get more of it.
Since the tube does not go all the way to the bottom of the tank, even the pump does not get it all.

Pretty wimpy connection to make it from the line to the install. That would be a nightmare for the tech department. Maybe something of the sort of kit that could be installed after installation. Once rough handling is done.

Always liked the tank in tank concept, massive heating surface area, resistance to liming up. But draining, always a PIA.
