They escaped what they felt was tyranny. Tyranny through taxation, government, and human rights. They effectively put into play a scope of laws that would help prevent the Suppression they escaped from. Predicting the future of a growing nation, and the evolutions in all aspects of civilization would be near impossible to predict the impacts on the very checks, and balances they put into place. Hence the bill of rights.0

The constitution is a remarkable document that was absolutely perfect in it's day, it was as seminal as the Magna Carta was in it's day.
https://www.bl.uk/magna-carta/articles/magna-carta-an-introduction
Things have changed a lot since these documents were written and because of that they need to be interpreted for our time, I do believe them to be living documents. The basic tenets have to be preserved but they have to be fit into our day and age. What upsets me is how willing some are to use some of the articles to hide behind and profit themselves at the cost of others.
If your not happy with what is going on in this country take action when you vote in November. Both sides are equally at fault, they both do whatever it takes to please their masters on K street. Maybe it's time to replace all of them.
Electing a buffoon for president will not solve anything.

Oh my.........They are meant to be "tongue in cheek", of course. I'll remove them, so as not to offend anyone.0

It's not a matter of offending anyone, Paul. I'm just looking out for you. I can explain more if you need me to do so. Dan@heatinghelp.com.Retired and loving it.0

I understand completely Dan. They were meant to be so absurd that they would be chuckle invoking. I understand Homeland Security issues, and the FBI's monitoring of the internet. I should have worded things differently, so it would be clearer that I was poking fun at politics, in general. I now know how Hillary feels.0

". It becomes a no brainier that IF it came down to calling on citizens to pick up their own arms to help fight tyranny whether foreign, or domestic would become futile."

And to be fair, it was done in large part because they took such great advantage of their own geography. They were very smart and we completely underestimated that in Viet Nam.Steve Minnich0

The government we were trying to help in 'Nam and later in Iraq was hated by their own people. If you don't have the support of the people you either leave or you kill all the people. In any case you better have a plan - winging it just doesn't work.

So we went went from political tendencies of people who have steam heat to the jungles of Vietnam. Fascinating.
Which brings me to the next question... What is the heating history of the Vietnamese? I believe the Koreans used to drop a chunk of coal in the middle of their floors and have some manner of radiant heat.3 -
The VC didn't have any Stratofortresses!

A very different war for sure. As Stephen noted a challenge geographically, and a war with out battle lines other than the 17th parallel. Battles fought for hills, and later abandoned.
Very different war from ww I or ll. Where there was real estate to be gained, or lost that meant more tactically than jungle, and or rock, and sand.
That's why body count was used to verify our advances. Remember we left because the war was frowned upon by the American people see video I posted. Did we lose the objective yes we left. No different than Russia in Afghanistan. No different than the British against our continental army. it really boils down to logistics, and the cost of sustaining it. Is the objective worth the cost in terms of money, and lack of support of the people.
Also I think getting in the middle of anyone's civil war is a losing battle. After ww ll that seems to be our MO.0 -

What kind of heat is in the White House?
Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

The White House was one of the first steam-heated buildings in the country. That system is long gone.
When I wrote "Lost Art" in '92, a reporter wanted to do a story on the book. I mentioned The White House's heating system and she asked me the same question you just asked. I told her I didn't know, so she called The White House and asked. The Secret Service got on the phone with her and asked a lot of questions of their own.
She called me back to say, "Thanks a lot!"Retired and loving it.0 -

Thanks to all for the lively debate. I appreciate your calm responses and respect for one another as we continue our Politics of Heating experiment.
And while conversations about politics can certainly get heated, it seems that this thread may be straying from the main topic of heating, as some of you have helpfully pointed out.
So, speaking of heating and politics, here's an interesting article about the history of steam heating in Washington, DC.President

They create a nice ambiance and sort of preserve the history. I am pretty sure it has AC so take a guess what someone probably did? I have no facts to back this up of course. Of course if we think about this, FHA is potentially a huge problem from a security standpoint isn't it?0

Maybe you could give the White House a call around lunch time and ask?KC_Jones said:They create a nice ambiance and sort of preserve the history. Robert's theory is most steam heads lean left while hot water guys lean right.Mad Dog said:So...perhaps I missed it, but what is the political affiliation of most steam heads? Mad dog

Ahh...I, being the anomaly then! I'll buy that. I think it goes to love of old things and antiquities. I find that most of the antique shops I frequent are owned and frequented by people of the left. Mad Dog1
