About a year ago, friends purchased a great old home in Davenport, IA. It was built in 1881 and has 98% of the original pipe tube radiators. It is piped up in a 2-pipe Vented arrangement, knuckleheaded to no end, but that is a subject for a later post.

This post will deal with the boiler that the previous homeowner installed a few months before the sale. As is usually the case, the installer meant well, but missed the mark entirely; not even a Hartford loop. How many ways is the boiler piped wrong? Can you count the ways?

    Ben to the Rescue!!

Friend and great steam fitter, Ben, of J. L. Brady, Co. arrived on Tuesday to repipe the boiler the way it should be. Note the great drop header! It should produce excellent dry steam. While he was at it, he installed the proper skim port, separated the building mains that were stilled combined by leftover piping from a previous boiler.
Now.... time to focus on repiping the returns, drips, and correcting the venting.
    Another Great Job Ben!
