Hey everyone, I have this new customer who just bought a new house this past summer. He gets terrible expansion noises when the heat comes on. He wants that resolved or at least minimized. The home is completely finished so no walls can be opened. The heating system is series baseboard loop with 3/4" finned tube. 6 zones one dhw and 5 heating. Boiler is a weil mclain 167,000 btu direct vent grossly oversized. I came up with 88,000 btu heat load calculation. Customer would not like to change boiler. I need some recommendations on this .....I was thinking using outdoor reset with constant circulation to minimize the expansion noises for the heating zones and when the indirect calls have the boiler fire to 180.. priority???or no because of oversized boiler ...indirect is amtrol 40 gallon....the system has honeywell zone valves....can I use a taco 4 way valve with a boiler pump and indirect pump on the boiler side....and on the system side use another pump constant circulation, wwsd , using thermostats as potential high limits if the space got to hot? Should I use a pressure differential bypass valve in case alot of zones close..? If I set reset curve correct would that happen? And lastly would that 4 way valve provide proper boiler protection for the boiler to prevent condensation? Good idea or no....? Any more ideas are welcomed. Thanks Paul S

Anything you can do to keep the circulating water in those baseboards is going to really help a lot. I'm not that knowledgeable about control strategies, but from what I've seen and read it would appear that an outdoor reset controlling the circulating water temperature might be the way to go.
