This beauty finally gave up after many years in service. The name rings a bell for me that this was maybe the first "cartridge" style pump?

It was Taco's first wet-rotor unit, not sure if it used the current cartridge construction.

Why does it say "with arrow pointing to any wall"?

Possibly if someone was challenged by the meaning of "Horizontally only" then they would not point the arrow towards the floor or ceiling. ;)

There is another post here recently discussing the orientation of motor/pump shafts.

The perfecta was John White’s first small pump offering in 1954, when he bought the rights to sell the pump in the USA from Karl Rutschi. It was a European design where hydronic heat (wet Heat) was more popular. Ironically Taco recently announced the purchase of Askoll pump division in Italy (see Attached announcement from Johnny). I’m so excited about the announcement because I enjoy dual citizenship as a US citizen, and a citizen of Italy. How cool is that!!
The Perfecta was a centrifugal self-lubricated, vibration free, and virtually noiseless pump. However, it was a European design and had a difficult time adapting to US system designs. Mr. White, Johnny’s dad was a true pioneer, and decided to stick with the pump design, and reengineer it with a hollow shaft would minimized interaction with the systems water supply so iron oxide wouldn’t contaminate the pumps bearings or plug the access hole for lubrication.
John White and Taco’s engineers worked very hard to correct the imperfections of the perfecta for the US market, and as a result earned a lasting reputation as a company that stood by its products; a reputation that Taco Comfort Solutions still enjoys today.

Thanks, Joe. I was four years old when the Perfecta arrived, and I remember it well. Great days ahead for Taco.
    Retired and loving it.

Bad pic but this is a taco "paneltrol" in service since 1952 happily doing its job mixing for radiant ceilings. For 63 years.

Somewhere, I think we have a new-old-stock Perfecta that has never been installed. Finding it might be a challenge...............

If you visit Italy, as a citizen, and haven't served in the military there. You may be staying for a while.

B&G pumps used to say the same thing. I always wondered why.
Just to be obstinate I always installed them with the arrow pointing to a window or a door and they still worked fine.

There was an error rendering this rich post.
