  • Put a Gorton #2 on an antler with the present vent, and see if that does the trick. Ideally you need 2 Gorton #2's with the length of the piping.--NBC

    Adding additional vents won't hurt, as long as they are needed but I suspect you are not going to improve system operation much until that near boiler piping is fixed. The way it is now, the very short header is probably not above the normal water line, of the boiler, at the recommended heigth, that reducer on that header holds a lot of water, right under the riser to the main. The steam has to be very wet, taking all that water up into the main.

    You should definitely vent the mains much more, however radiator venting may be a trial and error type of thing. I vent the rads based on cfm of air in the pipe and radiator, I also take into consideration the location. Sometimes it comes down to the homeowner just playing with different vents over time to get it right.
