Coil plate gasket :

Looks like this area is swelling. Worried that it might let loose. A buddy told me that the gasket needs to be replaced. But it's too cold outside to do it and that I should wait till the warmer days arrive. The boiler is a Weil-McLain.

Do you feel lucky? Do ya? If you want to risk it, prepare for the worst with snapped coil bolts etc. Have a tap set ready and new bolts. Put Never Seize on them. Hopefully the mating faces are smooth.

Not a bad idea to arm yourself with a replacement coil if you're going to do this, likely the existing is scaled inside or outside or both!

Bob hit it on the head! Start hitting it with your favorite loosening agent now.
Is this a gas or oil fired boiler?

Is there a better picture of the plate?

It is oil fired. I just hope it last through the cold spell. I don't see any water. Just rust and swelling.

To get a better photo I would have to peel off the rusted cover. Don't want to disturb it just yet. There is no coil. Just a plate. Boiler is for heat only.

There's a gasket under that plate with bolts that hold it in place.

    Photo that.

That's just a knock out in the jacket. Removing that knockout will not effect the cover under it.

Remove the knock out. You can also probably remove the whole side of the jacket from the boiler. You'll need to do that anyway.

I know it's been a while. But since the heating season is long gone. I decided to dismantle the jacket and see what lies beneath it and post it. I am thinking that if I cannot repair this, then I may be looking at a new boiler purchase.

Steam. Was looking into Modulating condensing boilers but it looks like gas or propane only.

Doesn't look like I have many options considering I am fueled with oil and heated with steam.
