usually insulating all piping is recommended,i was told my boiler is 30% oversized,so would insulation help or hurt, does'nt the uninsulated pipes act as a couple more radiators,i would like to thank the ones that have been answering my questions and teaching me a lot,6 plumbers bid my job not one measured my radiators just went by old oil fired boiler and installed same size gas, I guess that's the price to pay to live and learn

    Steam? Or hot water?

Steam system boilers should be sized to match radiation. Hot water boilers should be sized by a heat load calculation done on the building envelope.

On uninsulated pipes acting as radiators. Well, they do -- but in a very uncontrolled way. Where, for example does the condensate go? Does it interfere with flow to the rest of the system? At the very least, the uninsulated pipes will slow heat to everything beyond them.
