A little Story

Last year I was telling you guys about a friend I knew whos been in the plumbing and heating business for about 45 years.
A little history, I met Nick, wont say the name of his company, about 15 years ago when I was a young 23 year old, he installed a steam boiler in my grandmothers house, a large three family house. The old Burnham that had been installed in 1971 had rotted out and needed replacement immediately. He did the job with his son Nicky Jr, they did a very nice neat job, installed a Weil McLain EG65. This was my inspiration to doing steam boilers, every house I grew up in had steam. Nick took a liking to me and actually let my young inexperienceness run a new dry return line as the old wet one was clogged, and under the basement floor.
Fast forward to today, my helper who is also a part time scrapper, always gets calls from Nick Jr to pick up their scrap likes to text the pics of our jobs to Jr. So on our last job Sr wanted to see it in person, he said "very neat nice job, great piping work, BUT why the insane amount of piping work, the manufacturer dosent call for this piping," he installed Weil McLain for 40 years, and had recently switched to Peerless. He said "I want to see ya succeed but your gonna lose your shirt as this is not needed". I told him about Dans books and even doing a exit velocity calculation, but he said "just give what the instructions call for.
Anyway I will continue to do what I've learned and I believe works best, I respect him for the many years he's been in business, but I have my own company now.

Great story, taking what you picked up from Sr, and kicking it up a notch or two by being receptive to our fine host's writings! Not just piping...people too0

Just to add I recently did and EDR on my grandmothers house and came up 484 EDR, when they replaced that old Burnham, it was rated at 245,000, which explains the Weil McLain EG65 (250,000) BTU 654 sq ft EDR. They never did an EDR. But they seem to just replace what was exsisting.DL Mechanical LLC Heating, Cooling and Plumbing 732-266-5386
