Buderus fan unit

Every 12 to 14 months our GB142-24 has shut down due to a 3C 217 fault.  The boiler was installed in 2007 but the service and installation manuals didn't list this fault until 2012.  The fault indicates a wiring defect or a fan overspeed.  The wiring tested fine so a new fan was installed.  Buderus  customer service says the Service Tool to monitor the system is only available in Europe, so there is no way to monitor the fan speed.  With the old fan running a year or more between shut-downs, seems like we need to just sit and wait for a year.  The boiler power is protected by a surge suppressor.  Could line voltage fluctuations still be a problem?  Would a UPS provide better voltage regulation?  We're afraid to take a winter vacation for fear the boiler will shut down and the pipes will freeze.

    Guessing

Without catching it in the act, you're playing a guessing game. Now, you're trying to correct things that you suppose might be wrong such as voltage fluctuation.

Diagnosis must be based on facts. In the absence of these or any evidence, there's no value in supposing.

The wiring harness in the 142 is on the thin side and some have had to be replaced. I would have started there if there was no other evidence to go on.
