Rapid random clicking when furnace cycles off

My 2 year old LAARS MINI-THERM JVS used for radiant heat has started

making a rapid, relatively loud clicking noise when automatically

cycling off. Sounds as if it's stuttering. Sometimes it will only be a

short burst (sounds like: clclclciiick). Sometimes it can last for for

5-6 seconds (sounds like: clclcl clclclcclclclc

clclclcclclclcclclclcclclclc

clclclcclclclcclclclciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick). When I turn the thermostat

down manually it shuts off normally with just a single click.

Occasionally it will automatically cycle off normally with a single

click. Any idea what's happening here?

    Could be...

    Lots of things.

    I would suspect a bad t-stat first.

    That's at least 2 sites ....

That's at least 2 sites you posted this on.  Not to sound like a pri*k, but if you spent as much time on the phone call a service tech, as you did multiple posting this, you would be on your way to having it fixed before it does some damage.

Thanks for the info Carl. Steve, your internet...

    Thanks for the info Carl.

Steve, your internet hall monitoring is impressive. Unfortunately I won't have the funds to get this fixed for a few months so I'm trying to assess what the issue is and how soon it needs to be addressed. Do you have an idea what it could be?

might have hit this one. Check the CPH setting on the t-stat.The guess is, and it's only a guess....as the t-stat approaches its set point,it may be opening and closing its contacts.Monitor the voltage at the t-stat connections of the boiler to confirm this is what;s happening.

Not to be a jerk steve

but this is called heatinghelp.com. for a reason.  They guy has a heating issue and he needs help.   I had both of my systems  professionally installed  and I still am on here often posting questions about my set up and guys like Carl gladly provide information to help us homeowners out.  However, if they feel it is necessary to get a professional to your house right away, they are the first to say so but in a professional matter.

This very well could be an easy fix but he won't know until he gets the information.

    Responses.....

@wrxz...you're not offending me. I offer help & advice as much as I can, to the extent I feel it is safe to do so. I cannot assess the level of skill of the original poster, but I could guess almost zero. Almost all of the time, they need help right away. Almost all of the time, they spend more time on sites looking for instant help instead of calling a professional and getting help. Isn't it obvious they need help now? The fact the OP has no money to get it fixed now is immaterial. It needs a pro now. H/O has a 2 year old piece of equipment. Wouldn't you immediately call the installer? Or the last person who did the annual maintenance? (Probably no maintenance done since install)

OR would you waste time posting on numerous sites? There's nothing you can do with the information about what might be wrong unless you can fix it yourself.

Now if it's been a continuous problem, and a tech has been there to try to fix it, that's different

@original poster. You have Carls answer....now what can you do with it? Nothing but call a tech, right?

"Internet hall monitoring..." Yes I go on multiple sites to try to help people. The other site strictly forbids DIY help, and has many valid reasons why they won't.

I actually had a service call last week for exactly these symptoms. It wasn't the thermostat, although I started testing there first, and the problem was solved in 20 minutes.

    Thanks

Thanks for the info Paul, I'll do the test and see what happens. The t-stat is a mechanical LuxPro PSM30SA 2-Wire heat only. Do you think it could be something as simple as the contacts in the t-stat being dirty?

Steve, I would like hear what the issue was in your case. Just trying to get and idea of what the problem could be. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
