orfice plate at trap inlet

I have a school building that has an orfice in the union of the thermostatic trap. Traps are located at the radiator outlet and the orfices are between the radiator and the trap. 60 year old system. The orfices plug and hold condensate in radiator. Can I remove the orfice and just leave trap in place? Or does the orfice protect the trap element somehow? LAOSH shows orfices in supply but none in outlet side of radiator.

orifice in wrong place
I'm sure it should only be in the inlet valve union, so remove it, but save it in case you need it in the inlet.--NBC0 -
tricky question
Is this a low pressure steam system?0 -
info
NBC- there are 24 radiators set up like this. They all have pneumatic valves on the inlet. Does that make a difference? It is low pressure, 5.5 lbs max. And when I remove them, they are pretty well junk!0
