1915 2 fam house With Both Steam and Forced Hot water

ok I am puzzled. I bought a 2 family house that was built in 1915. The 2nd and 3rd floor has steam heat single pipe and the 1st floor has forced hotwater (Rads not baseboard). I figured that the 1st floor was converted to forced hotwater since it was easy to work with the pipes in the basement. I know the Steam on the 2nd and 3rd is original because the single pipes are behind the old walls. Heres what puzzles me. In the attic there was an old expansion pipe that was attached to one of the 1st floors forced hot water pipes. The plumber took it out and it was full of water. He capped the pipe but had to drain the system as water was pouring out. I read that it was from an old gravity hot water system? Why would they build a house with Both systems? Has anyone ever saw this before?

Steam
Are you sure that it's two separate systems? It is more likely an old gravity hot water system on the top floors.
Is there another expansion tank on the system? Possibly near the boiler.0 -

Rads
Guess I missed that part!0
