Intellicon hw+ will it help

I feel like I am burning way to much fuel for my DHW.... I heat 99.9% with wood and my 20 yr old Utica boiler is only used to heat water for the indirect boilermate. After consulting a very reputable local plumber, he recommended swapping the L8124 controller for a L8148 and essentially turning the boiler to cold start. I posted a question in another thread asking a wiring question, and received a response doubting the quality of the replacement controller and I am aware of the possible problems with converting a 20 yr old boiler to cold start. So I started investigating other non cold start options and came across the intellicon hw+. I have read tons of information now on the pros and cons of this unit, but none that seem to fit my situation of ONLY using the boiler for indirect DHW.

Does anyone think this econimizer would be a better alternative than swapping the controller to an L 8148 and going cold start? Will there be enough savings to justify the cost of the econimizer for my situation of only using the boiler for the indirect DHW?

Thanks in advance

    How long...

How long is it taking for the boiler mate to come to temp? Is the boiler cycling on and off?

The boiler mate exchanger is fairly small and prone to clogging. I wonder if the poor transfer rate is causing short cycling and inefficiency.

    AquaSmart

Go to AquaSmart and cold start it. The standby loss from indirect will cycle it often enough to keep it warm.
