Just snagged a L608A (mercury switch, more accurate than J) Vaporstat and now am planning the install.

Ordered piping and gauges based on the 11/7/2012 2:23pm post by Rod to <a href="http://www.heatinghelp.com/forum-thread/143164/Noise-again">http://www.heatinghelp.com/forum-thread/143164/Noise-again</a> using the referenced PDF <a href="http://www.heatinghelp.com/files/posts/14911/Low%20Pressure%20Gauge%20Piping%20-%20%20Bill%20of%20Materials.pdf">http://www.heatinghelp.com/files/posts/14911/Low%20Pressure%20Gauge%20Piping%20-%20%20Bill%20of%20Materials.pdf</a>.

Is there an problem with adding a six-inch nipple plus coupling to extend the entire assembly so the Vaporstat and gauges are just above the top of the boiler housing?

skipping the bottom elbow nipple from the PDF and planning on attaching directly to the top of the LWCO

Substituted Wika 0-20oz low pressure and 30"Hg-0-30PSI liquid filled high pressure gauge, and planning to add a Ray Porous Snubber between the pigtail and 4-way cross fitting.  Links:

    No problem at all

in fact, it's not a bad idea.  Those things don't like to get wet, and extending it higher like that will help -- and won't make any difference in the pressure it senses.

Some folks say you don't have to fill the pigtail with water when you  install it -- but I would recommend that you do.  That will ensure that the equipment won't see steam either, and that always helps.
