Thermostat set backs with Vacuum Vapor System

Have a nearly 5,000 sq ft home with a well maintained, Vacuum

Vapor System,  fired by a newer Peerless

EC ECT Boiler and an efficient Reillo Burner

Also have a Lux Thermostat  with Swing Temperature currently set at plus/minus

one degree

Today fires twice at day – once in the morning for 3

or 4 hours (at 1.4 gph) and once in the later after noon.

Works well but has a temperature variations between

firings during the day (in the evening too, but that is OK).

Question would setting back the swing temperature to,

say, plus/minus ½ degree be a good idea – probably more even temperatures

during the day but a $4.00 a gallon do we burn a lot more oil?

    Probably not

although one can't guarantee anything.  But there is a sort of general feeling that one uses more oil bring the temperature up a degree or two (never mind deep setbacks!) rather than holding a more constant temperature.

Is you system cycling with the pressuretrol / vaporstat, or is it running continuously for 3 - 4 hours?
