Running a new gas line for a 40.000 btu fireplace. What size pipe would be efficient for installation?  The run is about 50ft and I will be using approximately  5 elbows.       Thanks

    It depends

on the rest of the piping and the delivered pressure.  Use the tables.

    Think all you want

that might be the answer, but you will never know if you don't run the numbers.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExNosdWfvnI explains the process.

    Swei is correct.

it is as he said ,

you have a two inch line you are connected to available ?

then It too may be too small 50 ' away if you ran 2" all the way to it ...you cannot even begin to size pipe on not taking into account the type of gas other appliances developed length ...

    Fish

How does the saying go "Teach a man to fish...."

Why the reluctance to learn and get the correct answer every time?

The are far too many folks guessing at this stuff. The tables are super easy.

i just watched the video and left a comment.

the thing the instructor did not say was that there are times when the developed length is outside of the parameters of this chart ...here we have someone who is well up on his game and as it is his road game knows the methods or can access the information .

we do our work under permission and we are always aware of that.

    Weezbo.

for folks who do commercial work do from time to time run into these minor technicalities.
