White Rogers 1F80-240 Thermostat

We have white rogers 1F80-240 thermostat.

We have steam heat from natural gas.

The Gas/Electric switch under the cover of the thermostat has always been set to Electric and the system runs fine. Again, we have a steam heat system that runs on natural gas.

Should the switch be set to Gas, and if it should be set to Gas will the system run better or more efficient?

Hope this makes sense.

We like this thermostat, it's simple and runs pretty close to exact. Would any professional know off hand what is the comparable replacement for this discontinued model?

Thank you for any help.

Robert

Whatever you chose, make sure the instructions specify a steam setting. As we do not advise short temperature setbacks for steam systems, the round simple Honeywell thermostat may be suitable.

Digital read outs are a bit more accurate than the old dial.

You would be surprised how much difference one degree makes to comfort.--NBC

When set to Elec the fan comes on with a call for heat.

When set to gas the furnace controls the fan.

With steam it doesn't matter there is no fan

    Thank you NBC

Yes that makes sense. There are two settings, SA and SL. SA is for a fast cycle and SL is for a slow cycle. We have it set to SL.

Agree with you on the the Honeywell round in regards to comfort. We had a Chrontherm, I think it was Honeywell and it had a mercury switch. The thermostat had the manual adjusted anticipator and the heat was just great.

    Thank you for your help.

    Thank you WR

Ok, that is good info. We have natural gas powered steam heat. The only fan is the blower motor that blasts the flame into the boiler. And that is tied directly to the burner turning on.

In our case it doesn't matter whether set to Electric or Gas because there is no electric heat fan.

    Thank you again.
