E.D.R. of convector

in Strictly Steam
I am trying to figure out if the boiler is the right size for the house. There are a couple of convectors in the system. They are like the ones found on page 101 in "We've got steam heat." What is the E.D.R. per inch of these convectors?

    That's a generic picture

    Lots of manufacturers made convectors that looked like that and the rating would depend on which one you have. Pictures would help.

    Heres the picture

    The convectors are built into the wall and can't be opened up. I guess the height of it could be measured buy putting a tape measure in through the top and bottom if that would help. Attached is a picture of it.

    Ouch.

    These always shrug their muscles and give one the hairy eyeball. Without knowing what sort of element is hiding back there it's just guessing.



    Anyone else want to wade in here?

    Can we consider that a hidden radiator Dan?! Hehe, that grill looks like it can be removed. Similarly, the opening at the floor seems somewhat accessible. I would remove the grill, measure the length/depth of element, then probe from the bottom and top to see if you can get an idea of the height. I would do this on 1 radiator and use as a template, so to speak, for the rest.

    But I don't know our guest's abilities when it comes to probing into walls. A lot went into the design of those things.

    I would take

    the cover off but it is covered by sheet rock and I don't want to ruin the paint.

    I guess the bottom could be taken off. I have taken off the cover and looked inside. Here's a picture-

    While you're at it

    See if you can slip a vacuum hose down there and clean those fins.
