Electric boiler

Is there any downside to controlling a large electric boiler with outdoor reset?

I am working on an "always on" commercial system that has a tendency to overshoot.

Can you damage an electric boiler by turning down?

Thanks,

Carl

    how are you turning down?

Most large electric boilers I've seen have multiple elements and some kind of switching.  The newer ones have TRIAC controls, which can be retrofitted to almost anything.

    Control

    Swei,

I have seen a graph of the boiler's energy use. It appears to be a multistage setup with multiple elements. I will open it up and figure out what controls the beast on my next visit.

Assuming it has a control input

an off-the-shelf ORC (possibly with some kind of adapter if it's an older interface) should get you there pretty easily.

If not, I'd replace either the low voltage side or everything in front of the elements depending on what was in there.
