steam boiler conversion from Oil to Natural Gas?

Hi,

I have a two pipe steam heat system and curently have a Weil McLain cast iron oil fired boiler. Its in very good condition about 13 years old. It's been well maintained, new burner unit 4 years ago as well as the chamber being relined. Is about 79% efficient. Oil is through the roof...

The natural gas company is bringing in new gas lines and has brought the line to house at no charge.

Is it possible to have my current boiler converted to natural gas fire?

Would rather convert that go for a new boiler right now

thanks for any help.

Bob

    where you located.

I would call Carlin Combustion, ask for either tech support, or the rep for your area (hopefully its Bruce Graham). They'll tell you exactly what will work in your boiler, and recommend a competent installer

There was an error rendering this rich post.

If the boiler is in decent condition.

Model numer Weil Mclain 765 series 2

The model number is Weil Mclain 765 series 2. My boiler guy says its in good shape, but wondering how old is this boiler anyway. His guess is 15 ;years but not sure. Any ideas on how old this can be.

Its in good shape relined the chamber and new burner unit about 7 years ago.

    Worth converting

    thanks

    oil to gas conversion

Carlin is the way to go! It's a quite simple conversion & ingenious using the ez-1 burner but u must find out the model and the btu rating. good luck!

    The W-M 65, series 2 boilers

were made between 1974 and 1978. They replaced the 62 series, and were replaced by the 66 series.

But if yours is in good shape, I'd convert it. Then if your 7-65 dies, you can move the EZ-Gas to a new boiler.

    Thank you

Thank you very much for your advise. Most of the techs I know are only well versed in Oil fired boilers, who would you suggest to call on the install of the ezgas burner? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thank you again

    TURBO NG BURNERS?

I'VE SEEN AN ALOT OF THE KINDS OF BURNERS ON OLDER USSUALLT DRY BASE BOILERS FOR A CONVERSION. I'VE KEEPED SOME FROM SOME OF THE CHANGE OUTS I'VE DONE TO, BUT THERE OLD. ANY WAY AFTER LOOKING INTO THE CARLIN EZ THAT WAS SUGGESTED THEY ARE NICE. DO THEY OFFER THESE IN A NEW BOILER PACKAGE.

    not as a package

You need to order the boiler minus burner and by the burner seperate. All Weil boilers in my area come minus burner anyways so we just choose the burner we want be it oil or gas.

    pretty good...

chance that you will not find a Carlin plate for that boiler. It is a lot older than 15 years. I tried doing an EZ on a 62 series and was told No way by Carlin.

I ended up using a Midco legacy... it worked, but it is a lot different from a Carlin EZ gas. I would not use another. I tried to get the customer to just swap out the boiler....

    For the 62 or 65

you'll end up using an EZ-Gas with a standard flange, and maybe some washers on the flange mounting bolts to accommodate the non-standard bolt pattern. I've had to do this when upgrading oil burners on these boilers.

    chimney inspection

You will need an NFPA 211- Level II chimney inspection to ensure the suitability of this chimney for this use. If not properly lined or deteriorated, it will require a properly sized and type chimney liner.

    Already lined

Thank you, the chimney has already been lined.
