I'm a service tech and stumped on something. I have been on 4 service calls in the last 2 weeks and discovered all the 24 volt standing pilot gas valve coils have failed. other service techs in town also reported a small rash of failed coils on standing pilot valves. different locations, different brand furnaces, different brand gas valves. when i check transformers they give me at least 27 volt output. any ideas? install new gas valve and works fine.

Any electrical storms,
power surges etc. Any number of unusual phenomena could cause this to happen, look for something that applies to all the failures. It may have just been a one time thing, pin it down so perhaps it can be preventd from happening again.0
