Just Done some work at this building

Gorton number 2 Main Vents, change radiator valves, Hoffman 40 radiator vents.

Question boiler has a 2 inch header installation manual calls for a 3 inch

When I suggested changing homeowner wants to know what benefits could Be seen from doing this

Looking for some suggestions thanks in advance guys

  • More space

I'd say there are at least two reasons for an oversized header.  One, it slows down the steam so that any water carried along from the riser can drop out in the header and two, it provides more room for the water on the bottom of the pipe to keep separated from the steam at the top of the pipe.

    Thank you Alan

Problem is it does not seem to be causing any problems right now

I guess my real question is will it improve efficiency anything

Quite a bit of work involved and I don't want to put him to Any unnecessary expense

The Larger Header would definitely purchase dryer steam

  • Benefits from following instructions

Maybe this is not the time to cut out the old shrunken header.

You could ask them to listen for wet-stem rattles in the radiators this winter, and then perhaps they will agree to have it changed in the spring.

My guess is only a 5% difference in efficiency of fuel use, but maybe 10% in comfort.--NBC

Since posting one of 6 Tenants have complained of a radiator Spitting

Makes you wonder how many are not Complaining
