Vacuum Vapor - oil or gas?

I have a large house on Long Island NY with a two pipe vacuum vapor system, currently running rather efficiently I think with oil.   In 2008 I got a new peerless Boiler (EC ECT 06 W/S) with a Riello Series 40 (Model F10) burner and with a White Rodgers mechanical thermostat.  The house has 4,700 sq feet to heat, and being mindful of the thermostats we use +/- 1,300 gallons a hear, so at today's $4+ oil prices, that is over $5k a year.

The system works fine, so I never considered a conversion to Gas, but at these prices, I want to ask if I should??

Any suggestions much appreciated

Merry Christmas Happy New Year to all

Steve

    do the numbers

http://www.eia.gov/neic/experts/heatcalc.xls will help with your decision.  Looking at http://www.bls.gov/ro2/avgengny.htm, assuming the same efficiency for both fuels, and comparing $3.93 oil with September NG prices shows a 60% reduction in cost.

    Thank you SWEI ....

...The numbers make it look like an easy save; guess I was wondering if a large/older/unique system running on Oil for almost 90 years can successfully be converted, or might I be asking for trouble.

The system doesn't care what fuel is used...but your wallet does!

    Costs

Gas was/is always for over 20 years, less. Anybody that tries to compare BTU per unit, is full of DOO DOO!. A modulating burner will reduce energy consumption! A Tekmar indoor / outdoor control will help in reducing costs!
