One pipe counterflow system

Recently had two steam systems, both one pipe counter-flow, that were excessively noisy--banging in radiation, piping etc.  Neither of these systems have any main line vents.  It seems to me that installing them would help alliviate the problem.  Am I right in thinking this?  Pitch on mains seems OK.  Radiator vents are new.  Radiator valves are fully open and radiators are pitched correctly.

Thanks,

Derek

    Yes

Main air vents should be added near the end of a counterflow main. make sure the vent has enough capacity to vent the main quickly. Also make sure the boiler water is clean.

    Counterflow Systems

Hi- Attached is a drawing that might be of help. Adding main vents should make a big difference. You might also check the radiator venting as quite often to compensate for lack of main vents, there are large capacity vents,  like Vari Valves, installed on the radiators. Large vents produce a large amount of condensate. This collides with the incoming steam and produces noise.  If there are VariValves turn them down to close to their minimum setting (they don't turn off) or use a regular radiator vent.

    counterflow can work well

counterflow can work well especially with drips like in Rod's diagram.
