I saw on a t'couple a crimp about 1/4" long ,it was 2" back from the pilot assembly. What is the purpose of the crimp?

Do you mean the little indentation on the copper
lead? If so that is to insure the inner copel lead inside the copper tube and attached to the cold junction on the thermocoupe does not come loose. If it did the millvolts would not be able to get to the magnet assembly and the system would not work.0
