Oil & gas iexhaust nto same chimney?

Options
I have a fuel oil steam boiler and a fuel oil water heater exhausting up one chimney.

Thinking ahead, if I were to have the the boiler replaced with a gas fired unit, is it allowed under Code to exhaust gas and oil in the same chimney? I'm in Maryland if that matters.

Thanks.
One pipe steam, Weil-McLain 380 , pipes mostly insulated, 32 radiators!

Bock 32E water heater, Bock M-SR burner with .75 80A nozzle.

    Thinking Ahead

Save some cash now, for an indirect. Just a thought.

    Absolutely Not

Get an indirect with the new boiler as Paul suggested.

Is your signature correct? 0.5 psi cut in and 2 psi differential?

Have you tried to reduce the differential setting?  Most of the steam people suggest keeping system pressure less than 2 psi unless needed for special requirements.

Separately, I was under the impression that solid fuel appliances could not be mixed with gas or oil exhausts.  I thought that if you did mix gas and oil, that the oil had to be the bottom thimble.

    Recs without info?

OK, so no & maybe to answer my actual question.

This is a seven apartment house. The fuel fired water heater has a recovery rate of 112 GPH, with no running out of hot water even with 7 potential showers. The heating season in Maryland is Oct 15 to Apr 15, and the steam boiler is not fired in the summer.

I do not understand the concept of having a steam boiler indirectly heat water with enough recovery capacity to supply 7 potential showers, especially during the summer. How do you keep from not heating the house? That does not sound energy efficient to me.

I'm going to learn about gas fired tankless units to see what their recovery rate is.
