Boiler water pressure issues , is there a gasket on mechanical connection at the onboard , pancake style expansion tank . Would like to isolate to check tank air charge. Water side ,  Fill pressure 15 lbs., when burner fires , within a few seconds 30 lbs. and relief does its job , burner off back to 15 lbs.  any experience.

    Expansion Tanks:

They'll be putting external Extrol type tanks on these boilers to solve this problem. Get a #30 tank and connect it to the system with a double hose connection. If the problem stops, you have a leaky tank.

Another expensive cost cutting idea gone expensive.

    Just did this....

I had this issue w/ the same make/ model. Drained the boiler and disconnected the tank. Simple union. Added 15psi air through schreader valve back in.  It has been good for a month. You can get the replacement tank.
