Found a radiator on the 2nd floor that does not heat. It has 3 pipes connected to it. I have never seen this before. any ideas what the 3rd pipe is?

Could it be...?
I've never seen that before, but a couple of possibilities come to mind:
1.Was or is this a gravity flow system? If so, then that third pipe could go to the expansion tank.
2. Maybe it's for bleeding/flushing if this is the highest rad.
I have to agree with JDB (hope it's OK to still use the initials).Bob Boan
You can choose to do what you want, but you cannot choose the consequences.0 -
3 Pipe Radiator:
I'll bet you're right or close.
Bet that there is a cistern tank in the attic that is connected to that third pipe. If the radiator gets air, you open the valve to let the water balance. Or, that is the cistern tank.
Whatever it ism someone had an idea. It must have worked or else it would have been disconnected long ago.0 -
valve
is placed so water is traveling into radiator. May be return from other rad or riser.0
