I have a pre 1960 furnace with a conversion gas burner in it. It has an electric gas valve and the points aren't closing on the one side due to the wear on the cam. It is a Minnesota Honeywell electric gas valve Model V156A209 20 volt 60 cycle8 watt. Is there something I can do or somewhere to get the replacement part. Honeywell claims they dont have it

    I believe you are

talking about a V155 Motorized gas valve used on a Bryant conversion burner is that correct?

Have you been oiling the motor with a special oil made by Honeywell called "FINOL"? If not the valve will not open fully and the contacts will not make.

Those valves are no longer made and there is no easy replacement. Some of them even opened the secondary air door when they were powered, does your do that?

Solution is a new heating system as a retrofit process would cost a lot of money for parts plus the labor involved, really not worth it.

    Okay Tina Lynn

this is what is called a Republic Gyroscopic Burner. Do you have the manual for the Model B2? It would help if you could send some pictures of the gas controls so I know exactly what I am dealing with. Parts are no longer available for this burner so a re-control may have to be done or a new heating unit is the other alternative. Let us look at the pictures and we can go from there. What is you location as most of these burners are around Illinois and Indiana area although we do have some here in Rhode Island. If you do not have manuals for this unit I have a copy which I can send to you for copying charges plus mailing.

I need a new or used bimetal strip or whole Pilot light mechanism  The bi-metal strip that is part of the Pilot Light Mechanism is broken.  It looks like it is replacable with two screws holding one end and a sloppy wire connection on the other end.  It is 5 inches long with a 1 inch 180 degree loop back down to the screwed connection.  It is 1/2 inches wide.

The pilot light assembly is about 27 inches long with lighting hole and button.  I do not yet have a picture to send but will if there is a possible unit available used or new.

    Sorry that pilot

is obsolete and no longer available. The solution is to install a retrofit over to a Powerpile Self Generating system using a Honeywell VS-820 Gas Valve and a Q314 Pilot with a Q313 750millivolt pilot generator. Depending on the system you will also need a boiler control. Pictures of your controls would help in answering what else you need.

I would not attempt to create a bi metal for that pilot as you are talking about the safety of the gas system when you mess with pilots.

I have worked on these in the Chicago area.  The conversion burner especially can become dangerous, continuing to run without any call for heat.  Made my hair even greyer!  I love old equipment, but do yourself a favor and surrender to replacement.  A 2-stage 80% is the best modern equivalent; can produce higher supply air temp if that's what you like.
